1Introduction-Step 2
Want to Create Your Own Book Trailer?
Here are some overall steps for book trailers. Each book trailer website requires slightly procedures, but this will get you started. As I create handouts for the different websites and programs I'll add to the end of this jog.
Step 1: Brainstorm a list of about 10-15 pictures that tell the story of your book without giving away the ending. Remember that you won't be able to use copyrighted photos (like a photo from a movie). Be willing to change your mind because sometimes you can't find the exact photo you want. The school filter will not allow you to Google search for images, so we have some other options below.
Step 2: Log into the computer as you. Create a folder on the desktop with your name on it. You will save all photos/music into this file. Be sure to put this in your home folder at the end of the class period so you don't lose your work.

2Step 3-4: Photos
Step 3: Find your photos. These sites are listed below but also follow on the jog:
http://morguefile.com/ (nice because you only need one slide at the end giving morguefile credit)
http://pics4learning.com/ (have to give credit to every picture. Does give the citation already, you just have to copy)
http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons (have to give credit to every picture. Be sure to use the third category: Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivis License)
http://destiny.aisd.net (use for cover image only-be sure to save the largest photo not the thumbnail) Click your school, Catalog, and then find your book. If it isn't a book at your school, you might try looking in all of AISD
This is a great way to cite photo credit: http://www.picnik.com/app#/home/welcome
You can also create a .jpg file in PowerPoint (see the tutorial link if you need help with this)Note: make sure to save your photos to the folder you created
Step 4: Upload your photos and arrange into the right order

7Steps 5-7: Text and Music
Step 5: Add text that tells the basic highlights of the book. Try to be creative and don't give away too much information. Remember to watch how fast the text appears. Some people can read quickly, but some need a little more time. Words should be big enough to see from 10-15 feet away ideally.
Step 6: Find music
Some programs provide their own music. If not here are some places to get free music that isn't copyrighted. The general rule is unless you have permission you can only use 10% of a song or no more than 30 seconds. This means that you can't bring a CD from home and use the whole song. While you own the CD you do not own the rights to the song.

Step 7: Upload music (if needed)

9Steps 8-10: Create a Citation Slide and Finalize the Project
Step 8: Create a slide in PPT to cite sources. Be sure all photos are cited as well as the music! Save the PPT as a .jpg and then you can upload it as a photo.
Step 9: Finalize project to your folder.
Step 10: Share the project with teachers, classmates, etc. If you want to post to the library website it must be correctly cited and meet copyright guidelines. You will also need parent permission.
Note: be sure you are backing up your files each day and that you always know what files are the good ones. If you don't practice good file management you might loose some of your work. -
