In late November everyone in your class will be required to recite one poem from memory. The poem must be from this website. Look at the red bar along the right hand side of the page for more information. In particular, you will want to look under the "Poems" heading. Look at a few videos to see what top competitors are doing.

The sub-title of the website says it all. This site was created by former U.S. Poet laureate Billy Collins.

I don't think I've ever explored this site enough. Click on the "poems" tab second from the left to see the different ways to find poetry. You can find poems by poet, peom title, popularity or just hit "Random Poem" over on the right (under "browse").

Despite the name, there are a variety of poems in English, not just American. There are also biographies of poets so you should have no problem knowing which is which. If you click on "Poets & Poetry" and hold your mouse down as you scroll down, you'll notice you can find poems by category or for special occasions.

This is a great little search tool for finding poems, poets, essays and videos. Be sure to click on "Poets" and under "Geographically" to find American poems.
