This is a great free site and it is a wonderful way to introduce students to creating comics on the web. Bill Zimmerman, the founder, really believes in the power of comics. There are limitations to the site and you can't save the comics for later, but you can email them to yourself (or your students can email their work to you).

This is a free site, but it is open to the world and can have inappropriate content on it. I would not necessarily use this site with younger students and would think deep about using it even with older students. ToonDooSpaces is a better bet.

This is the school-based version of ToonDoo. It is a closed networking space. You can give it a free try, but it does cost money to have it set up for your classroom.

Like ToonDoo, this site is free and open to the world. And like ToonDoo, you have to be concerned about content.

There is a school version of Pixton. I have not used it beyond a quick trial. It has a lot of possibilities, but it seemed a bit confusing for me to set up for my students and was not as intuitive as ToonDoo. BUT, Pixton does have one cool option: you can transform comics into animated movies.

Here is an easy and engaging site (with commercial content, however) in which students can use Marvel Superhero characters to create their own comics.

Stripgenerator has a very different look to it (I believe it is created by folks from Eastern Europe). It is easy to use but again, I would be wary of content on the site.

I have not used this one, yet, but it seems intuitive to use and, like Pixton and ToonDoo, they charge a fee to offer a wall of protection for students.

What would the world be without Captain Underpants? This site allows you to create a comic with the diaper-clad superhero.
