Concharto used to be called Time Space Maps. It is a combination of Google Maps and a wiki and is meant to be a community encyclopedia of events and where in the world they happened. Anyone can add to the map, but citations are required and anyone's article can be edited for errors. The site owner's goal is to harness the intelligence of a large group of people to improve human knowledge. By the way, Frank San Miguel was the creator of Mapquest.

PlaceSpotting is a Google Maps quiz site. People find places in Google maps that they have zoomed to, and add hints about the picture. Your job is to find that same place in the map below. This site is German, so if the hints might not be in English. Click EN in the upper right for English, then the solve tab to get another puzzle. Very fun - but can be very difficult! You can also create your own map quizzes.

Mapskip is a Google map mashup where you can map your stories. You can include images and audio files, too. You can locate stories by map, browse photos, and learn about the authors of the stories. There are many mapped stories on both coasts of the US, but not many in the midwest - maybe you and your students should add some!
